How To Get a Cannabis Card
Before you apply
I'm in California and it's perfectly legal here. I know my laws for where I live or travel and so should you! The two sites that keep updated information can be found here http://www.ncsl.org/research/health/state-medical-marijuana-laws.aspx and http://www.leafly.com/knowledge-center/medical-resources/qualifying-conditions-for-medical-marijuana-by-state and http://www.leafly.com/stateoftheleaf
Find a doctor
Once you've figured out that it's legal in your state, you're on to find a doctor. http://medicalmarijuana.com/medical-marijuana-doctors-cannabis-directory and http://www.leafly.com/doctors
First, you need a drivers license for identification or a birth certificate if under 18 and parents sign off. Second, you need to get a doctor to approve the use of medical cannabis for your needs. This doesn't mean your primary physician, it can be a doctor that specializes and has a certificate to approve cannabis cards. Third, you need anywhere from 50 - 120 to pay for the application fee which is a annual fee. Finally, submit your form for approval (most likely done by your doctor) and wait for approval. Depending on your state it can take a few days.
I don't see my state listed, what should I do?
I touched upon this in my Cannabis info section as to what you "can" do. Additionally, you can see if your state is pending for approval and what you can do from there to get involved be progressive in the medical cannabis movement. Look for LivingSocial, Groupon or Yelp deals for the organization/office your doctor resides at for a discount on fees. You may need to Google the places name online to be able to find some of these deals. The one I visited, had a 50.00 off coupon.
Make sure you have all your documents in an envelope and are ready to answer questions on why you need a cannabis card. Questions about how long, what are you currently doing or have done to treat your issue, and have you ever tried cannabis for your symptoms before? Being able to answer all the questions and having your documents in order make for a worry-free, smooth process.
Research the different methods of consuming cannabis and start to get an idea of what you'd like to try for your problems. Once you have an idea, start off very slow and test small. You will want to test your tolerance, control and how much you really need to treat your problem. Do not get discouraged if your first attempt fails, that strain may just not work out for you.
